The results of an ongoing practice of autotheraputic biofeedback. Each square was created pixel by pixel, corresponding to individual heartbeats over a 10 minute period. Pixels, as the fundamental media of our digital, image-based reality, have a kind of anxiousness to them: an approximation of the real that’s convincing enough to forget that it is a mathematical, binary representation of color and light.

The heart, too, speaks in binary code. The essential complexity of our most vital organ is reduced to a simple indicator of open or closed. My heart speaks loudly. Its pacing and strength and vibrations are felt in my skull, my stomach, and in the back of my throat.
