digital illustrations, 2021

Selected illustrations from a digital participatory work exploring the survey as a medium, and the screenshot as a means of interrogating agency in care technologies. Participants consent to reviewing a set of new “products”, and are askedto answer various questions about their experience with, and perception of the  illustrations and paired text

They are questions that I have asked myself in my own experience with mental health technologies in an expensive, bureaucratic, individualized and stigmatized system in the United States. It has forced me to objectively evaluate the authority and value of a technology (such as therapy, medication, assessment, or diagnosis) alongside what it feels like in relationship to an increasingly abstract concept of “better.” What ‘“works”, then, becomes quickly detached from the technologies themselves, and ultimately my body.
